Nikhil Chalam hates writing in third person, and now that you know who I am, the rest of this can be written in first person. I started out as an editor for Prime Focus in 2008. Scared of permanently only being stuck in four walls, I decided to become an Assistant director. I have assisted on countless ads, with several Indian as well as foreign directors. I also assisted on the movie ‘Fukrey’ with Excel Entertainment. I’ve also continued to edit scores of commercials, short films and a few documentaries.

 

In 2015 I managed to formally make the jump to director. Over this time I have gotten the opportunity to direct scores of commercials for various brands like McDonalds, Nestle and Colgate to name a few. What advertising offered was a chance to try out vastly different styles and approaches to film making; and the challenge of having to tell a compelling story in a very short duration.
